mother nature's surprises

Lately, when I come home from work there are lots and lots of little "cotton balls" from the trees all over my doorstep. The other day there was so many, I picked up a huge ball and honestly could have made a pillow out of it! As a result, there are little wisps of cotton all over my apartment. They're actually pretty hard to clean up! Once you think you've gotten all of them, more pop up!

But who really cares about little cotton balls right? A whole post about them? Come on guys, you raelly think I'd do that? Here is the real meaning of this post. Where we live, we always have a show outside our bedroom window put on by the local deer. I took this picture one day while I was studying.
They're always so close to our windows that if they were open and we were really quick and sneaky, we could touch them. So, last week I got off work, drove home to get some stuff before Josh and I headed up to Rupert, grabbed some stuff took it to the car, ran back in and got some more stuff, opened the door and almost fainted! This is what I saw!

The cutest littlest baby deer just sitting on my welcome mat! At first I thought it was a rabbit; it was soooo small so I almost slammed the door because I didn't want to chase a rabbit around and around and around the apartment. But I took a closer look and I'm so glad I didn't slam the door! I waited a while for the little cutie to get up and move away, but it just sat there shivering and staring at me! So I tried a different tactic, I gently stepped over it to see if that would scare it enough to move, but it just sat there. I brutally knocked on the neighbors door so they could see it too, but they weren't home. I just felt like this was the kind of thing you needed to share with someone! Instead,  I closed the door slowly and snapped a few pictures of it so everyone would see the cute proof..

BUT it never moved! It was a really hot day and our door is under the stairs so it was really cool by our door. I think that the little baby just wanted to get out of the hot sun and then got too scared to do anything else! Brad told me I probably smelled like deer urine so it thought I was its mom... I sure hope not! I waited a little longer, then decided to go upstairs and tell my neighbors because I didn't want the poor thing to stay there forever with no food or anything and I had to go! I ran upstairs and told Megan then sadly drove away. It was such a cute little guy! I don't know what happened to it, when Josh and I got home it was gone. Hopefully the neighbors took good care of it!

Ohh, I want a baby deer for a pet! The only things we get by our doorstep are our neighbor's bikes and strollers. Bummer.

  3. That is so awesome! I wish we got cool visitors like that. The only thing we get is snails. My nephew named one of them "Jonas" and now every time he sees a snail he thinks it is Jonas. Good thing he doesn't know that I accidentally stepped on Jonas on my way out the door one day and crushed him. Now we get Jonas' family and friends as visitors instead.

Hey Karee! That is so neat! I really wish we could have seen that, with it being so close! I believe Mark saw that little sweetheart out by the speed bump tonight, with its parents close by. So, if it's the same one, it's safe!
