Kiting

Thanks to my brothers, my husband is now OBSESSED with kite boarding. Its strange that all it took was a little push from my brothers to get him obsessed because every summer there are tons of people doing it in Deer Creek, and it hasn't interested him until now. I guess once you actually know cool people are doing it you have to do it too haha I was really surprised to not see any kite boarders this summer, but then again, the lake has been really really low so the usual spot they do it at is now a grassy field. But, after my brother Darin came to Rupert to visit and do some kiting and then left, there have been people out on the lake basically every day. And not just one or two... I'm talking at least 10 to 20 every. single. day. Gotta get it in before winter I guess.

One day, shortly after Darin left, I got back from school and work and Josh wasn't home. Earlier that day, he went to go look at a trailer for his business and it ended up being a way less quality trailer than was advertised. And he was a bit sad because he wanted to buy a new trailer. Now Josh has a little problem sometimes when things like that happen. He's all pumped up to buy something and then when it doesn't work out, he still feels like he needs to buy something. However, he calls me and we talk about how we don't have any money and we're poor and its actually a good thing that he didn't buy a new trailer and then he doesn't buy anything. On this particular day, he called to tell me about the trailer, then I didn't hear from him again all day. And when I got home and he still wasn't home, I was a little worried... then he got home and said, "I have something to tell you."

At this point, I was worried... He'd been looking at trucks on ksl, other trailers, and other expensive things and I was worried he'd bought something crazy expensive. He went on in and said this all in one big breath.. "I've been talking to Bryce and Darin all day about kites and well, I bought a trainer kite from this guy on ksl. It was a really good deal and it'll be so fun and they said to tell you if you were mad that I am just bonding with the brothers." I just laughed and was actually excited to try it out. So we did. And here is the proof.

On the day we went, there were 20 other people out on the lake. It was so fun to watch them flip and go super high in the air.

Fall

The mountains around Midway are SO beautiful right now. There are still green leaves, but there are also yellow, orange, and bright red leaves too. The contrast is so gorgeous! Last weekend, Josh and I took the four wheelers for a ride and enjoyed the scenery.

 We stopped at the top of the mountain and did one of my favorite things.. roasted hot dogs!

After we ate our fill, we packed up and rode back down the mountain in the dark and froze! I forgot how cold it gets at night in the fall! 

Labor Day in Bear Lake

For Labor Day, we went to Bear Lake with our friends Adam and Megan and some of their family. Before we left, we went to Swiss Days here in Midway and ate some delicious food and got some caramel apples.

We had some raspberry shakes, played games, played out on the water, and relaxed. It was a perfect weekend after a week of moving, working, and school.

The weekend before school started, Josh and I went camping with our friends Jon Matthew, Megan, and their cute baby Sally near Brighton. Josh and I got there before them so we spent a little time shooting bows. Josh shot one of his arrows in exactly the same spot as another arrow and broke the end off. Then, he shot another one into the tree behind the target and it was in there too far and the tip broke off.

There was also a billion chipmunks and squirrels and mice running all over the camp site. They didn't even care that we were there, they would run up by our legs as we were cooking and try to get some food. 

They stole some of our Doritos... I was a little mad. 

 Josh and I drove over Gaurdsman Pass to get to Brighton and it was BEAUTIFUL. There were so many trees and it was so green and gorgeous. The pass is only open in the summer since during the winter it gets way too much snow and they don't plow it.

The next day, Darin, Linsy, Tate, Beau, and Bryce came over on their way home from Rupert. We played with nerf guns and dominos and had a blast. It was so fun to see them, even if it was just for one night. 

Bye Bye Boy Part 2

Part one is here.. The day finally arrived. Wednesday, August 15th, Kev was finally entering the MTC. Kevin wanted to eat Cafe Rio before, and apparently so did 15 other giddy almost missionaries because practically every family that came in while we were there had a young man dressed in a suit and tie.

After we ate, we drove to the field across from the MTC since all you do now is a drive by drop off. We parked and tried to find something that said "MTC" or "missionary" for Kevin to take a picture by, but this was all we got! ha 

this is Kevin's friend Keane. He went in the same day as Kevin and they are going to the same mission, only speaking different languages. 

We took pictures then we all piled into Dad's truck to drive across the street and drop Kevin off. We drove in, they directed us to some missionaries standing on the sidewalk, we got out, the missionaries got Kevin's luggage, we quickly hugged one more time and BAM he was gone. It was a little like ripping off a band-aid, one second he was there laughing and joking nervously with us and the next he was gone. Man, just sitting here typing this I'm getting teary eyed thinking about dropping him off!

Right now, he's been gone almost 5 weeks! He's doing so well and LOVES it. I honestly can't wait to read his letters every Wednesday and see how he's doing and what new things he's learned or done. I love my little missionary brother!
