the MARB

The Thomas L. Martin building aka the MARB aka the building on campus that ALWAYS confuses me.

No matter how many classes I have in it or how many times I've been in there, I always seem to walk into the wrong classroom. The building is basically a square, and there are 2 identical staircases leading to the upper floors inside. I try to keep it simple so I always walk in the northern doors, go up the stairs on the left, and go into the classroom on the left. Remembering the room number would also be helpful, but I thought turning left twice just seemed easier.

Well, it turns out that turning left twice isn't easier. I've been distracted a few times while entering the building, turned right and then left, gone into the wrong classroom, climbed over a few people to get into the only seat left, pulled out my notebook, and then after the teacher entered the room, realized I was in the wrong room. So I have to pack up all my stuff, climb back over 5 people to get to the aisle, and walk out embarrassed.

Today, I tried a different tactic. I faked a phone call. It worked pretty well actually. Luckily, I noticed I was in the wrong room a minute before class started, so everyone was still talking. I grabbed my phone, acted like someone needed my help in an emergency, and walked out of the room. The only person to realize I was in the wrong room was the girl next to me.  Why you ask?  Because I asked her about the quiz we were having today on casket sprays while sitting in a physics class.
